Carabids in changing natural and managed environments
Kiry – Tatra National Park 05-07.06.2017

Warsaw University of Life Sciences cordially invite you to attend the XVIth Symposium of Polish Coleopterologists, which will take place in the Marymont Hotel.

The Marymont Hotel is situated in the Kiry Village, few kilometers away from Zakopane – the „capitol” of the Polish High Tatra Mountains – and the Tatra National Park, but very near to the entrance to the beautiful Kościelska valley.

The topic of the symposium is:
Carabids in changing natural and managed environments

We are witnesses of ongoing changes of the environment. Most often mentioned are in a wider sense understood climatic changes, which are accompanied by various weather anomalies, creating different disturbances as fires, hurricanes or outbreak of pest insects. Under such circumstances agricultural and forest managements are modified in order to maintain the production functions. Carabids and other beetles react sensitively on environmental changes as well as changes in agricultural and forestal technology. Such changes concern their numbers and the structure of their assemblages. However, changes are also based on the only temporary occurrence of some carabid species, causing their disappearance. On the other hand, species alien to a given area may appear. Adaptation of species to new conditions may also consist of partial changes in diet and even changes in body size. The aim of the symposium is to present such changes on the level of species and assemblages, which may help in creating zooindicator systems and determining the direction of transformations of ecosystems.

Conference Highlights:

  • Carabids (and Coleoptera) in monitoring and zooindication
  • Environmental Carabidology (and Coleopterology)
  • Systematic and faunistic of Carabids
  • Carabids (and Coleoptera) in forest & agricultural ecosystems
  • Biochemistry, Molecular Biology & Toxicology of carabids
  • Round table on possibilities of international project cooperation on ground beetles in the environment and other topics
